What Does Anti-Aging Really Mean?

February 16, 2018

When we hear claims that a cream or lotion can reverse or delay the aging process, we can’t help but imagine a magical elixir or routine that if practiced rigorously can keep us looking young and beautiful forever. But what does anti-aging in skincare really mean? Are skin-care companies offering products that can really stop the aging process, even skin deep? How can we know which products will have an effect on the development of fine lines and wrinkles, changing coloration, and other indications of age, and which are overpriced pretenders?

Look past jargon

It doesn’t matter how many fancy scientific words are used and laboratory scenes are shown in marketing, no company has scientifically mastered anti-aging in the lab. If they had, you can bet we would have heard about it. In reality, fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration are caused by skin drying and becoming vitamin deficient as we age. Products containing natural ingredients to moisturize and replenish vitamins can delay and reverse the appearance of aging.

Straight to nature

To find a product that will moisturize your skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles without adding harmful toxins look for a product with natural ingredients that have natural moisturizing, vitamin replenishing, and therefore anti-aging properties. Hemp seed oil replenishes vitamin A, C, and E to repair cellular structure and slow the breakdown of elastin and collagen which contributes to the appearance of aging. Hemp oil contains essential fatty acids which are easily absorbed by your skin for maximum moisturizing and moisture retention without clogging pores. Hemp oil also conditions the skin to reduce discoloration, acting as the skin’s own oil would. Aloe juice is easily absorbed, leaving skin feeling soft and clean while reducing damage to collagen and increasing collagen production. Meadowfoam seed oil has antioxidants and a rich texture that locks in moisture to prevent dryness hours after moisturizing. Meadowfoam also extends the life of other vitamins used in products, so look for it in any natural product you are considering.

Prevention

External damage from sun and chemicals like chlorine in pool water dries skin and quickens the development of wrinkles. Squinting into the sun develops wrinkles around the eyes, while sun exposure discolors the skin, puts you at risk for skin cancers, and dries the skin, making it susceptible to the development of wrinkles. Protect your skin with high quality sunscreens or physically guard your skin with a hat that shields your face from all angles, and always wear sunglasses. Even if you protect your skin, you will get some sun exposure, so be sure to thoroughly moisturize with a natural product before and after exposure. Wash your skin with non-chlorinated water as soon as you get out of the pool, and moisturize well.

Fight aging with prevention and natural products

Aging skin is skin that is dry and vitamin deficient, so fight the effects of aging with natural products like the Face Budder that lock in moisture as well as replenishing the vitamins your skin needs to look its best.
